Dear Community Member,
Once again we are able to provide an annual update on all of the school district's happenings thanks to grants that provide for community outreach. As I begin year six as the superintendent of the Richmond Heights Local School District, I must say that I am overjoyed and overwhelmed at times because of ALL that we have going on here.

ATTENTION all 6th Graders!

The state of Ohio has added an additional immunization (a total of2 shots) for students entering the 7th grade. Currently your child is required to get a Tdap vaccine (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) to begin their 7th grade year. Also, in addition, your child will now need a Meningococcal vaccine (meningitis). A second dose of Meningococcal vaccine will be needed before their 12th grade school year. This second dose of the Meningococcal will be given after age 16. Besides your healthcare provider, below are resources to receive these two required vaccines. In summary, for your child to BEGIN the 7th grade school year, both a Tdap vaccine and a Meningococcal vaccine are required. Please give any documentation of these to the school health office before the first day of school to avoid any exclusions. We look forward to helping your child stay healthy and ready to learn.

The Ohio Department of Health has revised the immunization requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. All students entering the 7th grade are required to have one dose of Meningococcal vaccine and one dose of Tdap ( Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis) prior to the start of school. In addition all students entering the 12th grade are required to have 2 doses of Meningococcal vaccine prior to the start of school. However, if the student received their first dose after their 16th birthday then just one dose of Meningococcal is required. You may obtain the Meningococcal and the Tdap vaccines from your health care provider or the Cuyahoga County Board of Health at 216-201-2041. Please consider the new guidelines when scheduling your child's next medical appointment.
