Naming th e Makerspace

A Legacy That Builds the Future 💙

In a meaningful moment for our district, Richmond Heights dedicated our Makerspace in honor of former student Duane Michael-John Crockrom, whose life and future were taken too soon in August 1998. Duane was on his way to becoming an engineer—a dream that now lives on in a space designed for innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning.

Through their continued generosity, the Crockrom family has remained deeply connected to Richmond Heights, providing a scholarship each year to a graduating senior in Duane’s honor. Now, his name will also inspire every student who walks through the doors of the Makerspace built to reflect his passion and potential.

Duane’s parents, Charita Sullivan and Duane Crockrom, were present for the dedication, joined by Board of Education members Jacky Brown, Linda Pliodzinskas, and Frank Barber, who shared in this powerful tribute. The family also gifted a jacket and commemorative plaque, which will be displayed in the Makerspace as a lasting symbol of Duane’s legacy.

This space is more than a room—it is a reminder that purpose lives on, and that every student who creates here is building on something greater.
