Students identified as English Learners are tested yearly with the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA). Once proficiency is reached, students will be monitored for 2 years to ensure that the students have not been exited prematurely from the EL program; any academic deficits they incurred as a result of participation in the program have been remedied; and they are meaningfully participating in the standard instructional program comparable to their never-EL peers.

The main goal of the English Learner (EL) program is to help students develop the English skills necessary to participate in grade-appropriate activities and age-appropriate social settings.

All new students who communicate with a language other than English at home are assessed for their English proficiency in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking within 30 days of their enrollment. Parents receive a letter with the results of the assessment when all students have been assessed.
