Mission
Our mission is to provide services to special needs students in an inclusive environment where each student can reach their full potential. Our staff is committed to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students in a positive environment. We will work together with parents and the community to focus on student success.
Services
Special Education services are provided to students with disabilities by highly qualified teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals. The Richmond Heights Special Education Team provides support for our students in a variety of ways. Depending on the needs of each student and his/her least restrictive environment (LRE), each student may receive services in the regular education classroom with accommodations and supports, in a small group resource room for some subjects, or in a single classroom environment for all core subjects. Richmond Heights students have access to occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Richmond Heights also provides transition services to help students plan their future after leaving school.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Individualized Education Program (IEP)?
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is an education plan developed for a student with a disability that is individually tailored to meet that student's specific academic needs. Parents, teachers, and related service staff work together to develop a plan that identifies goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications, and services to meet the needs of the child. IEPs provide support and accommodations to help each student access the general education curriculum. Meetings are held annually to review each student's IEP.
